NFPA2112  – Standard on Flame-Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Workers Against Flash Fire

The standard is in place to protect workers from flash fire exposures and resulting injuries.

NFPA70E  – Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace

Requirements for safe work practices to protect personnel by reducing exposure to major electrical hazards.

NFPA701  – Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame Propagation of Textiles and Films

This standard establishes test methods to assess the propagation of flame of various textiles and films under specified fire test conditions.

ANSI107  – American National Standard for High- Visibility Safety Apparel

Voluntary standard with guidelines that provide practical instruction regarding both reflective material and garment design to enhance worker visibility.

CFR1615  – STANDARD FOR THE FLAMMABILITY OF CHILDREN'S SLEEPWEAR

Issued to reduce the risk of burn injuries and death from fire associated with children’s sleepwear. The standard requires that children’s sleepwear and fabric intended for such sleepwear stop burning when the flame source is removed.

CFR1633  – STANDARD FOR THE FLAMMABILITY (OPEN FLAME) OF MATTRESS SETS

Flammability requirements that all mattress sets must meet before sale or introduction into commerce. The purpose of the standard is to reduce deaths and injuries associated with mattress fires by limiting the size of the fire generated by a mattress set during a thirty minutes test.

UL94

Standard for Safety of Flammability of Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Appliances testing, released by Underwriters Laboratories. Nonwoven materials used in electric products are required to pass UL94.

ISO11612  – Protective Clothing – Clothing to protect against heat and flame

specifies performance requirements for garments made from flexible materials, which are designed to protect the wearer’s body, except the hands, from heat and/or flame.

ISO11611  – Protection against small splashes of molten metal, and brief contact with flame

specifies the minimum basic security requirements and test methods for protective clothing and related risks.

ISO20471  – FABRIC AND MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR HIGH-VISIBILITY IN PROTECTIVE CLOTHING

specifies the requirements for high-visibility protective clothing that is capable of visually signaling the presence of the wearer.

IEC61482-2  – Standard Specification for Thermal Effects of an Electrical Arc Event

specifies protection levels that garments and fabrics must meet in an arc flash event. Protection levels may be used in conformance with the following standards: Open Arc EN 61482-1-1, which records arc rating levels (ATPV or EBT) and Box Test EN 61482-1-2 in Class 1 (4 Ka) and/or Class 2 (7 Ka).

BS5852  – Method of test for assessment of the ignitability of upholstered seating by smouldering and flaming ignition sources

BS5867  – Fabrics for curtains, drapes and window blinds

Fires inside buildings can be started due to ignition by smoker’s materials, open flames such as candles, or other intense heat sources. Oriented as a vertically suspended piece of material, flames can spread readily up and across a curtain.

BS7177  – Specification for resistance to ignition of mattresses, mattress pads, divans and bed bases

GB8965  – Flame retardant protective clothing material requirements.

Standard for protective clothing on workplaces. There are two part; Flame retardant clothing and welding clothing.

GB20286  – The burning behavior of fire retarding products and subassemblies in public places is assessed.

DL/T-320  – Performance requirements of personal arc protective equipment

GOST 11209-2014  – Fabric for protective clothing Technical general requirements Methods of Testing

GOST 12.4.234-2012  – Special clothing for protection against thermal risks of an electric arc. General technical requirements and test methods

Flame retardant goods  – Public properties are legally obliged to use flame retardant material by Fire Service Act

It is required for some properties to use as curtains in public facilities (ex. Tower building, underground, theatre, hospital) to display a label issued by Japan Flame Retardant Association (JFRA)

Flame Retardant Product  – properties other than flame retardant goods

Although it is non-binding, Fire departments promote the spread of its use for prevention of fire. The Committee that JFRA establish makes flame retardant standards and certify as flame retardant product.
